The high-pressure growth approach is now recognized as a useful technique for enhancing the quality of materials and also their superconducting properties. The potential candidate Sm-based oxypnictide (Sm1111) exhibits the highest critical temperature of 58 K among iron-based superconductors.

In the recent study, Dr. Singh's research team from our Institute conducted the first comprehensive investigation of the high-pressure development of Sm1111. Interestingly, the high-pressure technique led to only a small variation in the observed superconducting properties of Sm1111, which is the distinct behavior from other families of iron-based superconductors. In the second research paper, Dr. Singh’s research team summarizes their findings based on the various families of iron-based superconductors under the effect of high-pressure growth techniques in the form of a short review. WOCSDICE - EXMATEC combines the 48th Workshop on Compound Semiconductor Devices and Integrated Circuits (WOCSDICE) with the 19th Workshop on Evaluation and Control of Compound Semiconductor Materials and Technologies (EXMATEC). It will take place at Cádiz, Spain, from 16 to 20 June 2025.

Prof. Mike Leszczyński serves as a member of the Steering Committee for this scientific meeting.

Solid State Physics Seminars are organized weekly by the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw. Next one will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 10:15.

The National Science Centre (NCN) announced yesterday the results of the OPUS competition. Among the best projects that received funding there are two from our Institute. The projects are focused on the development of new laser types based on GaN.

Dr hab. Henryk Turski received funding for the OPUS project „Next generation visible light sources utilizing photonic crystals”. The main motivation and ultimate goal of the planned effort is to find a way to fabricate photonic crystal surface-emitting lasers (PhC SELs) emitting in visible range. In the project we want to integrate photonic and laser diode structures in order to obtain new class of devices: miniaturized, efficient and with improved light beam properties. Prof. dr hab. Piotr Perlin received funding for the OPUS project "Bridging the Green Gap: Developing High-Power Green Lasers with excellent beam qualities". The project goal to develop a high-power and high quality circular beam surface emitting green laser. The proposed solution uses a VECSEL (Vertical Extended Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers) type structure, where optical pumping will be carried out using efficient blue lasers.
