Magnetic or nonmagnetic substitution generally plays a significant role on the properties of a superconductor. It can induce disorder into the crystal, produce the impurity scattering, and cause a Cooper pairbreaking effect. Recently, Dr. Singh's research team from NL-6 has published a research paper that explores the non-magnetic Cu impurity effect on the high T_c iron-based superconductor through various types of measurements and analysis, including DFT calculations. This study concludes that the substitution of Cu in the superconducting FeAs layer results in the enlargement of the lattice volume and is a source of strong disorder scattering that leads to the suppression of superconducting properties and the emergence of a metal-to-insulator transition.

"Jaszowiec" International School and Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors is an annual meeting gathering international semiconductor physics community in Poland. Its 52nd edition is organized in Szczyrk from 15 to 21 June, 2024.

Institute of High Pressure Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences is one of the co-organizers, together with the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw (Institute of Experimental Physics and Institute of Theoretical Physics), Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology, Wrocław University of Science and Technology and Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics.

The Conference is preceded by a 2-days tutorial session (School), addressed mainly to graduate students and young scientists.

12th International Workshop on Nitride Semiconductors (IWN 2024) will be held this year in O'ahu, Hawai'i, on November 3-8, 2024. It is organized by Profs.Zlatko Sitar and Ramón Collazo.

The IWN 2024 will bring together researchers from around the world to discuss the latest advances in the field of III-Nitride semiconductors. IWN 2024 will celebrate the achievements of Profs. Asif Khan and Russel Dupuis as honorary chairs.

Prof. Czesław Skierbiszewski from our Institute was invited to give a plenary talk: „Tunnel Junctions for Novel Nitride Optoelectronic Devices”.

We proudly announce that according to the analysis published recenlty in Gazeta Wyborcza, the Institute of High Pressure Physics "Unipress", Polish Academy of Sciences ranks 10th among Polish public research organizations that obtained most patents through European Patent Office (EPO).

Unipress, with 23 European patents granted in last 10 years, is preceeded only by several largest Polish universities and ranks the best among institutes of Polish Academy of Science, with the runner-up Institute of Biophysics and Biochemistry holding 16 patents. The leader, Jagiellonian University in Cracow, obtained 82 European patents. When private entities are included (e.g. large commercial companies), Unipress drops to 17th place, which is still excellent, considering scales of operation.
